It started when…
When you asked me a month a go about an SLR camera, I would probably say it just a waste of money.
It started when a got an assignment to Kuala Lumpur on October 15th to 20th 2008. I’m free on Saturday and Sunday by the way, and by a chance in that same free day there will be also a MotoGP qualification and race, I already been to KL, and going to some places there, and so it is obvious what my plan is during my free day this time. Plan is set, and now is the time for preparation, Booking ticket? no need, since my friend say that I wouldn’t running out of thicket there.
First thing that cross in my mind is that I want to make tons of pictures, I already have a pocket camera, It’s a Samsung L730 wich in my opinion is a great camera, it’s light weight, easy, and produce great color tone, but this time it’s a special occasion, I wan’t to take pictures of Vallentino Rossi, Cassey Stonner, Dani Pedrossa, etc. in a real life action. I need to be equiped with more powerfull gear, some thing that offer enough zoom abillity to reach them, a 300mm tele lens will be great, but where can I find one? the only thing I have is a pocket camera with a modest 3x zooms.
Buying a camera with a tele capability is not an option that time, since I thought I will only need it once, on
that ocassion. So I was asking friends who have a camera with a decent tele zoom capability. My boss at the office Pak Ari who has tried many time persuade me to join his hobby photography is kindly offer me one of his collection, a prosumer camera Canon Powershot Pro 1 with decent tele lens of 200mm, not the 300mm I think I will need, but this much better offer then none, I need to purchase my own CF card by the way, since I don’t think the attached 256MB CF Cards is enough for me, so I buy a 1GB CF Card.
So here it is, It’s a great camera on my standard that time, but like I predicted, the 200mm lens is almost not enough for me, so it’s I who need to find the closes place to take pictures, and I found one luckly, at the famous sepang hairpin, a great place to take riders in actions, it’s very close with the track, and also the slowest part of the circuit.
Shooting in a full automatic modes, never the lest, it delivers me some great pictures that make me feel like a pro. And there you go, the joy of making great pictures make me consider to buy an SLR camera for my self.
These are some pictures I took by the way:
